"I left it all out there. Crossing the line, I knew it would be a lap that would be rewarded, but a chance to get to pole position, I didn't expect that," Gasly said following his remarkable performance at a track where he famously claimed his maiden victory six years prior.

"We are through, that is very tight," Ferrari race engineer Carlo Santi informed Hamilton after the veteran driver barely scraped into the final qualifying session by the slimmest of margins.
