Circuit des Remparts celebrations have officially begun for its 54th edition in the historic French city of Angouleme, drawing vintage automobile and motorcycle enthusiasts from across the region. The third weekend of September marks this classic calendar highlight, offering a nostalgic journey through motoring history amidst the scenic Charente countryside.

The weekend festivities opened with a traditional evening elegance contest on the Champ-de-Mars esplanade in partnership with the French Federation of Vintage Vehicles. This opening event showcased rare and forgotten automotive models alongside period-correct attire worn by passionate owners.

Saturday activities shift toward exploration with four distinct tourist rallies traversing the surrounding countryside. Participants range from the international Charente rally featuring 1960s to modern vehicles, to the Doyennes rally celebrating pre-1914 automotive ancestors.

Sunday marks the high-speed culmination of the event, moving competitions directly into the city streets on a historic 1,279-meter circuit unchanged since 1939. Iconic racing machines including vintage Bugatti Grand Prix cars and classic GT models will tackle the challenging hairpins and elevation changes.

Honoring French Heritage and Historic Racing Legends

French automotive heritage takes center stage this year with special tributes dedicated to the historic Lorraine-Dietrich brand, celebrated for its 24 Hours of Le Mans victories in 1925 and 1926.

Additional spotlights shine on the CG brand, with founder Jean Gessalin and former racing driver Bernard Fiorentino scheduled to make special appearances during the weekend gatherings.

Spectators looking for an immersive experience can also test modern simulation technology provided by local firm Synnoïa, bridging the gap between historical racing and modern digital interaction.

With roaring engines and decades of engineering history on display, the Angouleme event continues to prove why it remains one of Europe's premier gatherings for historic motorsport preservation.
