Volkswagen ID Buggy models capture the playful essence of classic 1960s beach culture while showcasing the future of zero-emission mobility. Revealed at the Geneva International Motor Show, this retro-styled concept car reimagines the legendary dune buggies of the past for a new electric era.

Designed by Volkswagen's head designer Klaus Zyciora, the vehicle embraces a minimalist aesthetic with a roofless and doorless 2-seat configuration. Its striking fern green exterior finish and waterproof interior pay homage to utilitarian off-road heritage while integrating state-of-the-art automotive engineering.

Built upon Volkswagen's versatile MEB platform for electric vehicles, the concept utilizes a flat aluminum unibody and robust suspension to ensure optimal off-road capability. Dual axle-mounted permanent magnet motors deliver an impressive output of 201 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque.

Performance-wise, the vehicle features a 62 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack that offers an estimated range of 155 miles under standard testing procedures. With steel tow hooks, chunky all-terrain tires, and a rear targa bar, the design successfully bridges nostalgic recreation with modern functionality.

Engineering teams prioritized rugged durability without compromising the fun, open-air experience that defined historical predecessors like the Meyers Manx. Every element of the cabin is fully waterproof, accommodating the lack of traditional doors and roof panels.

Compact yet capable, the concept boasts generous ground clearance and specialized off-road tires designed to navigate sandy beaches and muddy trails with ease. The integration of advanced electric drivetrains demonstrates how classic automotive formats can be successfully reinvented.

Industry reception at its debut highlighted the growing consumer appetite for creative and emotional electric vehicle designs beyond standard commuter cars. Analysts noted that such concepts serve as effective testbeds for modular platform versatility and brand heritage expression.

Although conceived primarily as a showpiece, the vehicle continues to inspire discussions about the potential for niche recreational electric vehicles in modern automotive lineups. Its unique blend of history and innovation cements its status as a memorable milestone in EV design.
