LEVC has officially confirmed that a next-generation version of the iconic London black cab will launch in the UK during the second half of 2027. The Coventry-based manufacturer, owned by Geely, announced that the upcoming vehicle will succeed its current TX range-extender electric taxi that has been on the market since 2018.
The new model will completely comply with the strict "Metropolitan Conditions of Fitness" mandated by Transport for London. These unique requirements are essential for any vehicle seeking designation as an official Hackney carriage taxi operating within the capital's busy streets.

Industry observers speculate whether advances in battery technology could enable the new model to drop the range extender petrol motor entirely in favor of a pure electric setup. LEVC's recent L380 luxury MPV showcases an impressive full EV setup with a large battery capacity, though analysts expect a more optimized battery size for urban transit.

LEVC CEO Tony Chi emphasized the significance of the upcoming vehicle, stating that the black cab remains a globally trusted transport solution. Chi noted that the new generation will respect traditional values while taking a massive step forward in design, innovation, and sustainability.

LEVC design boss Brett Boydell echoed these sentiments, explaining that crafting the next iteration of the legendary vehicle is both a heavy responsibility and a unique design opportunity. Boydell noted that current sketches reflect a modern character that respects the company's established heritage.
