Fernando Alonso and his future in Formula 1 have sparked a sharp disagreement between pundits Martin Brundle and Nico Rosberg regarding Aston Martin's long-term driver strategy.

While Brundle suggested that the Silverstone-based squad should consider replacing the veteran Spaniard with younger talent to match their infrastructural overhaul, Rosberg swiftly rejected the idea.

"I can't help but think if I was running Aston Martin and rebuilding that team for the future, I'd be inclined to get a couple of mid 25-year-olds and rebuild the driving line-up as well," Brundle told Sky F1.

The bold suggestion immediately drew a sharp retort from the 2016 world champion, who defended the two-time world champion's current performance levels against teammate Lance Stroll.

"I don't agree with that because Fernando, if you compare him to Lance Stroll, he's still driving really well and dominating Lance all the time in every single session," Rosberg fired back during the broadcast.

The debate highlights the unique conundrum facing Aston Martin as they weigh up whether the veteran driver will continue past the current season or pursue other racing opportunities.

Alonso remains undecided on his F1 future beyond 2026, admitting that a switch to the World Endurance Championship remains a distinct possibility as he evaluates upcoming regulation changes.

"The problem that Aston has is that they cannot keep Fernando and put in a young new superstar alongside him, because Lance is obviously set there," Rosberg explained regarding the team's dynamics.
