As one of the first major designers to star in his own advertising campaigns and embrace witty self-branding, Blass became a cultural icon in his own right. He cemented American fashion on the global stage during the historic 1973 Battle of Versailles fashion show, where American designers went head-to-head with France's finest couturiers.
