Lewis Hamilton claimed a commanding victory at the 2017 Italian Grand Prix on Sunday, steering his Mercedes to a flawless triumph at Monza to seize the outright lead in the Formula One World Championship standings. Hamilton, who started from pole position and broke Michael Schumacher's all-time record for career pole positions earlier in the weekend, converted his advantage with a clinical performance under clear skies.
"The team did an incredible job this weekend, and the car felt fantastic from lights out to the checkered flag," Hamilton remarked after crossing the finish line to secure his 238th championship point of the season.

Chaos on the grid as penalties reshape Monza lineup
The starting grid for the thirteenth round of the season bore little resemblance to Saturday's qualifying results following a barrage of technical penalties handed down to several key contenders. Red Bull Racing drivers Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo, alongside McLaren's Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne, faced heavy drops that shuffled the order significantly.
Lance Stroll of Williams capitalized on the shake-up to start on the front row alongside Hamilton, becoming one of the youngest drivers to ever line up on the front row of a Formula One Grand Prix. Meanwhile, fierce battles unfolded further down the order as drivers fought for every position through the high-speed Monza chicane.
Incidents during the race included a collision between Verstappen and Felipe Massa that left the Red Bull driver with a puncture, forcing an early recovery drive. Renault's Jolyon Palmer also received a time penalty for overtaking off-track before eventually retiring with a transmission issue.
As the European leg of the season concludes, the championship battle intensifies heading into the next round in Singapore, with only three points separating Hamilton and Vettel at the top of the standings.
