Electric M3 development has entered a critical phase as BMW tests its upcoming battery-powered performance sedan to the absolute limit on Germany's notoriously challenging Nurburgring circuit. Fresh spy photos captured the Neue Klasse-based performance vehicle sliding sideways through demanding corners while leaving heavy traces of rubber on the tarmac.

"BMW is really thrashing this thing," automotive insiders note, highlighting how the German manufacturer is putting its engineering prowess to the test to ensure the transition from petrol engines to electric motors retains the brand's signature driving dynamics.

Following closely behind the prototype during the track session was one of its primary global rivals, the Chinese-built Xiaomi SU7 Ultra. The presence of the record-breaking Chinese EV on the same circuit underscores the fierce competition heating up in the high-performance electric vehicle sector.

While the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra boasts a staggering 1526 horsepower from its three electric motors, the upcoming electric M3 is expected to deliver around 680 to 750 horsepower in standard configuration, with higher output variants potentially following later.

Despite a lower power figure on paper, BMW's new performance EV utilizes a cutting-edge four-motor setup overseen by an advanced central computing architecture. This technology enables unprecedented wheel control, allowing test drivers to execute controlled four-wheel drifts with remarkable precision.

As automakers push the boundaries of electric vehicle engineering, the upcoming electric M3 aims to prove that battery power can successfully deliver both blistering acceleration and the engaging driving character enthusiasts expect from the M division.

Xiaomi SU7 Ultra continues to set a high benchmark in the performance EV space, having previously captured impressive lap times on the Nurburgring Nordschleife. The range-topping configuration features a sophisticated tri-motor layout that achieves blistering speeds and rapid acceleration capabilities.

In contrast, BMW is focusing heavily on vehicle balance, agility, and driver involvement rather than pure straight-line numbers alone. The integration of advanced electronic architecture, internally referred to as Heart of Joy, provides exceptional chassis control and stability during extreme cornering maneuvers.
