A Williams contracted photographer wearing official team kit was allegedly placed in a chokehold by a Spanish police officer following the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid.

Footage circulated on social media showing the shocking altercation unfold as the veteran Getty Images shooter attempted to access the podium ceremony through a designated media passageway.

Fellow photojournalist Daniel Atan shared images of the incident online, describing the confrontation as an absolutely surreal experience involving a law enforcement officer and a credentialed media member.

Reports indicate that the photographer's equipment suffered damage during the scuffle, prompting inquiries into the aggressive police reaction as media organizations and officials seek answers.

Questions are mounting over the security protocols at Madrid's new circuit following the physical altercation between law enforcement and accredited press personnel.

Despite carrying proper credentials and wearing official team apparel identifying him with Williams, the photographer was reportedly confronted and forced to the ground.

Eyewitness accounts and video footage from the aftermath reveal that a second confrontation occurred later as the photographer crossed the track following the podium celebrations.

Both the FIA and the Policia Nacional de Espana have been approached for comment as Formula 1 stakeholders address the troubling security incident.
