Ford Maverick introduces updated pricing structure and engine options for the 2027 model year

Ford Maverick models are receiving a significant shake-up for the 2027 model year as the automaker implements structural adjustments to both its pricing tiers and engine configurations. While higher-end trims see notable price reductions, budget-conscious buyers will find access to the peppy turbocharged powertrain restricted.

"The Blue Oval has likewise added numerous high-zoot trims that have gradually raised the peak of the price range by about $15,000 in just a few years," industry analysts noted regarding how the compact pickup truck has evolved since its initial 2022 market debut.

For the upcoming model year, Ford is completely eliminating the 2.0-liter turbo engine option from the entry-level XL and popular Lariat trims. This strategic shift means buyers looking for the more powerful engine option will be pushed into higher-cost variants or select all-wheel-drive configurations.

Despite the restricted engine availability on lower tiers, upper-tier models like the sporty Maverick Lobo and off-road-focused Tremor are receiving price drops. The Lobo now starts at $32,155, shaving roughly $3,800 off its previous baseline, while the Tremor drops down to $37,155.

Weighing Performance and Powertrain Options

The ongoing debate between the turbocharged inline-four and the 2.5-liter hybrid Atkinson-cycle engine continues to define consumer choice. While the hybrid variant promises stellar fuel economy up to 40 mpg city, the turbocharged alternative remains the go-to option for drivers prioritizing acceleration and traditional transmission feel.

Ultimately, these adjustments signal a calculated move by Ford to reshape customer habits and usher buyers toward higher-tier trims. As competition in the compact pickup segment heats up, these pricing modifications aim to optimize profitability while keeping the lineup attractive.

Evaluating the powertrain choices for the 2027 Ford Maverick requires balancing fuel efficiency against raw performance. The 2.5-liter hybrid model offers remarkable fuel economy, though it pairs exclusively with a continuously variable transmission that may not appeal to all drivers.

Conversely, the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivers robust acceleration and pairs with a traditional multi-speed automatic transmission. However, losing access to this engine on the base XL trim means consumers must pay a higher price of entry to secure it.
